Our COVID-19 Response

Difficult times reveal true character and spirit. As our teams come together to confront the COVID-19 pandemic, support each other and care for our customers, we are showing our communities and our business partners just who we are as a company. It is truly impressive, and it makes me proud and humbled to lead this great company.

Randy Crawford , President and CEO

The rapid emergence of COVID-19 has impacted us all. As the pandemic began to spread across the globe, our leadership team carefully monitored the evolving situation and prepared to act with a thoughtful, disciplined and carefully implemented response plan.

Work safely and think responsibly are core values at AltaGas. The health and safety of our people, customers and communities is always our top priority. When we felt they could be at risk, we initiated our emergency protocols and began implementing preventative measures, adjusting operations, and transitioning our workforce to remote capabilities where possible.

Our office teams quickly adapted to new tools and adjusted processes to maintain key business functions while our field teams calmly forged ahead to maintain operations and deliver critical energy services to our customers and communities.

Our Utilities businesses provide essential services to homes, businesses, and hospitals. We know we have a critical role to play in supporting these communities as they weather this storm and our frontline utility workers are right there to make sure our customers have the energy they need. To support our customers who may be struggling to pay their bills, we waived late fees and suspended disconnections to ensure they have critical energy services when they need it most.

Our Midstream business adjusted operations to protect our facility teams and limit the number of people on site. We scaled back project work and focused on critical functions. Despite working in this challenging environment, our teams continue to perform exceptionally, and set several facility operational records over the last month. Demand for clean energy in Asia remains strong, and our teams across our integrated Midstream value chain continue to attract product to our system and export clean burning Canadian propane to our global customers.

From Washington to Alaska and Western Canada to Michigan, our company is coming together to serve our customers and care for each other during these challenging times. Even though we may feel more isolated, we are staying connected and preparing for the challenges that may lay ahead.

To engage and inform our teams about the latest COVID-19 developments and how our company is responding we ramped up our internal communications and launched new tools to help our people connect and collaborate. Each week, our executive team sends out messages to their teams and our president and CEO addresses the entire organization. We implemented new internal communications tools to enhance video conferencing capabilities, and we developed a centralized COVID-19 Response Resource Portal so that our teams across the AltaGas family can access the most recent updates and resources in one central location.

We will be there for our people and our communities throughout this crisis because we are all in this together. When it ultimately ends, we will all move forward together and be stronger than ever. To support our people as they adapt to changes and manage stress, we regularly promote the resources available through our Employee Family Assistance Program to ensure they know where to get help if they need it. To aid our communities during this unprecedented health crisis, we’ve committed $1 million in emergency assistance to support their pandemic response effort.

While we don’t know how long the COVID-19 pandemic will last, or what the full impact will be – our teams and our company continue to take it day-by-day, follow the recommendations of health authorities, live by our core values and keep moving forward.

We are confident we will emerge from this crisis, stronger and more connected with our people, customers a communities than ever before.
